Channel Islands Emmaus Walk 28 is now upon us. The teams are in the final preparations
and the pilgrims are ready. The only remaining item is the coverage of the weekend with
the prayers of the community. Please keep the pilgrims and the team in your prayers.
In particular, pray God’s protection upon the leadership.

Another way that you as the community can participate is to attend the Candlelight Service
on Saturday of the weekend. You should be in the sanctuary by 8:30 PM. If you arrive
earlier, you can fellowship with others. Your presence at this event underscores the call
of God for us to be disciples and share his light out in the world. Please try to attend.

Remember that Mananitas on Sunday morning is for same gender persons only: men on the men’s weekend and women on the women’s weekend

God Bless,
Ken DeVore (CIE 6)

    MANANITAS CHANGES

There have been concerns expressed regarding the presence of community members of the opposite gender being present in the Pilgrim sleeping areas on Sunday morning during Mananitas.  As a result of review and discussion by the Channel Islands Emmaus (CIE) Board Of Directors, the guidelines for Mananitas (the Sunday morning flower activity) have been significantly modified.  Beginning with Walk #28, only persons of the same gender as the Pilgrims may participate in the Mananitas activity.  This means that only men may participate in Mananitas on the men’s weekend and only women on the women’s weekend.  Also, because communion is presented to the community at Closing, morning communion for the community following Mananitas will not be offered.  All other aspects of the activity will remain the same.

If you have questions, please contact any board member.

  • From Our Walk #28 Lay Leaders

  • The time of preparation is nearly at an end; the time of participation is at hand.
Anticipation is heightened in the team as we plan shopping trips for groceries and supplies or prepare our agape for the team and pilgrims. Yet, this week our Head Cook, Dave Rogers, reminded us to make prayer our number one priority.

In keeping with this reminder, an extra eight prayer warriors will support us for the next two weeks. These men have been active in previous walks but for various reasons were unable to participate directly in the weekend. I also called many members of the Core Team and prayed for them and reminded them to pray with their prayer partners. And Prayer Agape, John Whitmore and Dan St. Pierre, are preparing the list of prayer partners to support the pilgrims in this final week.

As a community, you can help, too. Please pray especially for the 19 pilgrims, but also for the team. Your prayers will help us remember during the final preparations that this is God’s Walk. Please pray that “we walk in the light as he is in the light,” pray that we have “fellowship with each other,” and pray that we remember that “the blood of his son, Jesus Christ, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

    De Colores, Emmaus Community,

If you’ve ever taken the time to really look at grapevines, you’ll see that they are
intertwined around one another. Sometimes one branch is holding up another, and then a little further on, the branch doing the holding up becomes the branch that is being held up. This little illustration presents an accurate representation of the Women’s Walk 28 Team. I was encouraged on Walk 27 when I heard that God doesn’t call qualified people, He qualifies the people He calls. Our gracious God has certainly qualified me as Lay Leader by providing many of His faithful servants to plan this walk.

Our team consists of Head Clergy Giovan King, and her assistants Marge Whittemore and Flora Obayashi; Assistant Lay Leaders Ruthie Burrus, Sue Sturtevant and Laura Ortega; Head Cook Jean McMullen; Assistant Head Cook Kitchen Lynne Hartley; Assistant Head Cook Facilities Mary Dunlap; Floater Jackie Holsclaw; Runner Midge Seeley, Prayer Agape Carolyn DeVore and Diane White; Agape Diane Boddye, Cathy Wengler and Melinda Nofplot; Musicians Kathy Wade, Liz Collins, Tanya Ferguson, Randy Clohessy and Jo Brown; Kitchen Musician Julie Sorensen; Logistics Carol Conner and Katie Davis. Our table leaders are Vickie Plourde, Barbara Crowdis. Angel Schoonover, Arlene Tate, Cathy Bojorquez, Dee Findly, Nancy Simpson, Diane Kunz, Heidi Rogers, Bonnie Nolan, Marian Lydick and Alice Duckett. Our Cook team includes, Fil Hower, Norma Fritsche, Traci Fauci, Heidi Eseke, Dee Riddering, Joyce Wilson, Cheryl Giddings, Nanette Diogo, Vera Breedlove, Ernestine Stansbery, Shannon Sorensen, Natalie Knosp, Kathy Weir, Diane Prieto, Kitty Parmalee, Kim Brosnan, Darcy Gale, Sandra Wilson, Ginny Murray and Cindy Luis.

This is indeed God’s walk. We have all been encouraged by the prayer support of the
community. Please continue to pray that the pilgrims will hear afresh the truth of Jesus Christ, and that the power of the Holy Spirit will rekindle the flames of study, piety and action in their lives. May all who come behind us find us faithful.

Praising God and Abiding in Christ,

    Carolyn Wojciechowski
